Sponsorship Program

About the sponsorship program

Helping Hands sponsorship program is made to support children and youth through school. In some cases also for families who need help for special reasons. We want to give the most possible children and youth the opportunity to go to school and get a higher education.

If you don't want to be a sponsor for a specific child, you can also contact us to become a monthly donor. In that case, we distribute the money as we best see fit, for example to children who don't have a sponsor, if one of the children get sick, or others in difficult situations.

, and we will get in touch with you!

Sponsorship program FAQ - frequently asked questions

What is it that I pay for when I'm sponsoring a child/a youth?

When you become a sponsor for a child, it should be stated what's included in the amount you pay. Usually it's the cost of the school, school equipment and uniforms. The cost of the school varies from school to school.

Why are you only a sponsor 1 year at a time?

The sponsorship program is based on the school and the school equipment we pay for, which are on a yearly basis. It happens that the kids move, change schools, or finish school. Because of this, we send a yearly update on wether the child is continuing on the same school, or if there are any changes. That way you can choose if you want to continue as a sponsor or not.

What happens if I can no longer continue being a sponsor?

This doesn't mean that your child is suddenly without access to school. We make an obligation to the children that we help, and continue to help them. What it does however have consequences for, is how many children we are able to help. Without steady income and sponsors to support us, we unfortunately can't promise help to any more children, and there are many children that need help. We of course understand that people sometimes have times in their lives where they can contribute, and other times where they are not able to. This should not be taken out on the children, but we of course want to help as many as possible.

How many updates do I/we get?

How many updates you get about your child varies. Some children/youth who live closer to our project manager in Tanzania and/or need extra follow-ups. Other youth study further away. That's why it's going to vary how many updates you get about the child you sponsor. Updating the sponsors is something we do on our free time and without pay. We do our best with the capacity that we have. The fact that we work voluntarily means that all the money actually reach the child you sponsor and the cause we have told you that the money go to.
