What we have done together
School and Higher Education
Many children are unable to attend school due to financial challenges or a lack of basic supplies. Some don’t have a backpack, school books — or even essentials like shoes. Others are missing a school uniform, or have one that is worn out and full of holes.
When a child receives lunch at school, it greatly increases the likelihood that their family will send them. Thanks to the support of many generous sponsors, we have been able to provide access to education for over 160 children and youth over the years. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our sponsors for making it possible to offer so many young people the chance to attend school and build a better future.

Miriam
When we first met Miriam in 2018, she had suddenly and inexplicably become paralyzed from the waist down. We were deeply moved by her strength and determination — she faced long days in the hospital with a smile, even as we sometimes had to turn away to wipe our tears. Her resilience has played a key role in her journey toward recovery.
With consistent physiotherapy several times a week for more than two years, Miriam has slowly but steadily regained feeling in her legs. We extend our heartfelt thanks to her physiotherapist, Peter, for his extraordinary commitment, and to the sponsors who have stood by her side throughout her treatment and healing process.

Family Planning Seminar
Many girls become pregnant at an early age — sometimes as young as 14 or 15. Although it is now legally allowed to attend school while pregnant, social stigma and community expectations often cause girls to drop out. To help prevent early pregnancies and support informed choices, we invited local healthcare professionals to lead seminars on family planning, and to offer free HIV testing and access to birth control.

Adult Education
We have met many women who are eager to improve their job prospects in order to better support their families. Many previously held small, low-paying jobs. Several expressed a desire to become tailors. Through a training program led by a skilled instructor we hired, they received high-quality education in the trade. Upon completing the program, each woman was given her own sewing machine, which we provided. Since then, these women have successfully established themselves in the profession and are now able to provide more sustainably for their families.

Education Seminar
It’s common for girls to drop out of school before or during high school. Many become pregnant at a young age, and it’s still uncommon for girls to pursue higher education. In families with limited financial resources, boys are often prioritized over girls when it comes to schooling.
To inspire and encourage change, we invited successful working women to lead a seminar for local girls. Gladness also gave an empowering talk about their value, potential, and the importance of being independent rather than relying on a man. After the seminar, every girl who wasn’t already in school expressed a desire to start.
